“Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest; heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul.” Anon

For the Mentorship Circle I'm offering an afternoon of relaxed and sometimes challenging play exploring vocal improvisation. We’ll loosen up our voices, sing, throw caution to the wind and express parts of ourselves that may be shy but won’t be able to resist. Using fun games and structures for accessing and liberating sounds, grooves, words and feelings, we’ll build up rich vocal soundscapes, interacting with our inner voice and with each other.

The session will suit people who already have some confidence in singing, or other forms of improvisation, and are ready to stretch themselves a bit. It's not really a 'find your voice' kind of workshop, although you may well find it, along with other things you didn't know were there.

I run a (quite) regular vocal improvisation group in Frome for singers and am doing some intensive training with Briony Greenhill this year, so will be bringing fresh ideas and inspiration gleaned from my studies.

“Jo is a fantastic leader - very relaxed and natural and she instills the confidence to take a risk. Some of the vocal improvisations we create in the sessions are truly astonishing - energising, sometimes funny and very often moving. You end up saying "Wow - where did that come from?"  H.V.

‘I have great fun in Jo’s vocal improv sessions. She holds the space really well, is encouraging and flexible. There is no pressure. It’s very freeing for expression. As a singer, I take that experience into my singing group and feel the benefit’. It can be challenging at times but I’m amazed at what can be created which otherwise would not happen!! Thanks, Jo. David xx’
