"In the NHS you hear about the golden hour in critical incidents and it's the same with the police. In the context of climate breakdown, if you're behind the curve you have to run like mad to catch up. We are so far behind the curve we can't even see it"

The former chief superintendent Commander of Cornwall Rob Cooper now fights for climate issues, backing Extinction Rebellion in parliament this week at the first ever Peoples Assembly to be held there.

In a Daily Mirror interview this week, Cooper said

“There is a climate emergency and we need to listen to the scientists.

“I like people that take to the streets. I see them as messengers more than protesters.”

Here is his hard hitting speech outlining the proposals he'd like see put to parliament. It was part of the first ever Peoples Assembly to be held in Parliament, convened by XR with help from MPs Caroline Lucas and Clive Lewis.

He says " "If our Prime Minister wants to call me an uncooperative crusty, I will take that badge and wear it with pride."

I feel so very fortunate that I was able to be present at this first People's Assembly in parliament last week. I missed Rob's speech, as I arrived later, but have listened to it several times since.

For the record I found him to be a most authentic and calm speaker; evidently drawing on a wealth of experience with deep consideration and wisdom.

PS - is there a way I could share this to the dreaded FB please??

I feel truly lucky that the Rob Coopers of the world exist, and even more so that they are willing to walk their (rather difficult) talk, and speak out about potential dangers and ways forward in these (possibly)d increasingly unstable and threatening times. Thanks for recording Rob and sharing it Pete
