have cat, will travel

A project that asks you to re-examine the way we think about cats, public space, adventure, love, and the human animal. And that invites you to join our creeping, curious revolution.

Cats. They have been many a human's deity or dinner. But for most of us these days, they are beloved companions. There's an ongoing debate over whether or not cats should be allowed outside. Cat-fanciers tend to feel pretty strongly about the subject, with most either insisting that

a) cats need to be allowed to roam about as they please, or

b) cats must be kept indoors at all times.

However, many of us are realizing that there is a third, more interesting and rewarding option: walking the cat. I began leash-training my cat a few years ago, and now we go everywhere together: bicycle rides, art festivals, forest hikes, ferry rides, you name it. It's made me rethink her species, my species, and the arbitrary limitations foisted onto both. This project seeks to share all of the practical tips, conceptual underpinnings, and camaraderie that will help fuel this creeping, curious revolution along.
