Playa de Teco

I escaped the compound yesterday for the best day of my short trip to the Dominican Republic. Blistering heat, deep blue skies and a long walk under the midday sun (I'm a mad dog Englishman, after all) around the aby, through the mango groves. After an hour and a half I turn the corner to discover the most beautiful, remote beach. Crystal clear water, fine sand, a few huts where some friendly locals live - one selling conch shells and confectionary - and only a handful of people there, all locals, no tourists. It didn't take me long to strip off my clothes and plunge into the warm clear water. Bliss after a long, dusty walk.

I was even offered a drive back in the most rusty car I've ever seen. The journey turned into an epic, even though it was just a few miles, taking almost an hour getting back because of the bumpy road.

A truly memorable day on one of the finest beaches I've ever seen. A total contrast to my week in the compound and I'm so glad I made the effort, even if I did get sunburnt.
